Junkyard – Misery Loves Company

Probably my favorate band from the late 80’s early 90’s LA rock scene was Junkyard. People who don’t know better lumped them in with either the Glam scene or Hair metal. Junkyard was neither of these. Junkyard was straight forward rock with a little southern blues and a punk rock attitude. The punk attitude is not surprising since three of the bands members came from successful punk bands, Brain Baker (Minor Threat, Dag Nasty and later Bad Religion) Chris Gates (Big Boys) and Pat Muzingo (Decry).  Once again early punk musician expanding their musical tastes.

Mumm-ra – She’s Got You High

Mumm-ra release only one full length album in the eight your career. They were part of the British indie rock scene that spawned The Kaiser Chief, the View and the Horrors.

supersuckers – rock ‘n roll records

When it comes to good high energy rock the Supersuckers always deliver. In the musician community the Supersuckers are well respected. They have work with many people including backing Willie Nelson and recording with Steve Earle.

John Doe – The Golden State

John Doe is one of those rare musicians that makes music he wants to make and nothing else. You never know what you are going to get from John Doe. John was a founding members of X and the Knitters. He has also created several solo album. John mixes Folk, punk and alt-country. He is a outstanding songwriter and poet as well

XTC – Dear God

The first time I heard this song I said to myself “this is exactly how I feel about it”. XTC are founded in 1972 by Andy Partridge and Colin Moulding originally as the Helium Boyz. In 1977 they changed the name to XTC. The band tour until 1982 when Andy Partridge had a mental break down that gave him such stage fright he could not perform. The band continued to record until 2005 when Colin Moulding decided he no longer wished to make music.

Beta Band – Dry The Rain

The Beta Band is largely overlooked even though their mix of electonica and Folk open doors for the birth of a new genre.

“I Will Be Alright, I Will Be Alright”

Hayseed Dixie – Ace of Spades

I’m still in that bluegrass mood I was in a few days ago. There are several bluegrass groups that cover rock songs. I have to say I do enjoy the mix of a classic rock song and bluegrass. Today I pick a cover of Motorheads Ace of Spades done by Hayseed Dixie of their 2006 Hot piece of grass album.
